Why Summer is a Perfect Time to do this…
It is at this time of the year when we’ve shed the layers of clothing that have kept us warm and cozy for the past several long months that we also notice perhaps the extra layer of love that we’ve added to our stature. By layer of love, I mean all the warming comfort foods that sustained us and nourished us the long, cold winter months. We also notice the winter inactivity of our bodies after a day of yard work. If you are one of those die hard, get outside and walk regardless of the weather, I applaud you. I however am not one of those people. I like to reserve my winter walks to days right around zero with a little sunshine thrown into the mix. I do try to stay active over the winter, but I will freely admit, that I too struggle to find the motivation to get off the couch and leave my blanket behind.
As I pulled out my shorts and summer wardrobe, I noticed that somehow they must have shrunk while they were neatly folded in my closet. It remains a mystery to me how this happens, but I am determined to once again comfortably fit into my long lost friends.
While I do say this all with a little tongue and cheek, the reality is that I struggle too. I struggle with feeling comfortable in my own skin sometimes. Cravings, hormones, a wonky thyroid, tired adrenals, food sensitivities, hectic schedules, sugar cravings, lack of sleep, new jobs, raising kids, etc. You have your reasons and I have mine. I simply want to remind you that you are pretty great – regardless of how well your shorts fit. The bathroom scale simply tells you what your gravitational pull is on this planet – it does not measure how much you are loved, the difference you make in the life of others or any of the really important stuff in life.
Now, with all that out of the way, I do think you owe it to yourself to invest a little more into you! The reality is, what we choose to eat matters. It matters to how you feel today – but also to your future self. With warmer temperatures now upon us, we receive the gift of fresh and local foods that are jammed packed with vitamins, minerals and phytonutrients.
Now is the perfect time to eat better and feel better.
Not sure where to start? I want to give you a little gift to inspire you to jazz up your salad bowl. Click here to download your copy of my, ‘Sassy Salads,’ recipe book. This may be just the inspiration you need to take your salad bowl for a spin again.
If you feel like you’ve been struggling with low energy, poor digestion – aka bloating, gas & acid reflux, hormones or any of the other struggles that I mentioned above, I am here to help. I can help you re-discover some pep in your step and an appreciation for eating whole foods. You might even fit into those favourite shorts from last year. If not, that’s cool too. I promise you that there are new shorts out there that would like to become your new favourites!
