It finally feels like Spring has Sprung!
I don’t know about you, but I love sunny skies, digging in the dirt and feeling a gentle breeze blow through the house. We recently replaced old windows that were a pain to use with new windows that are begging to be opened regularly. Birds are building nests and laying eggs and my boys are running barefoot through the yard.
When Spring arrives, I get the urge to do a little extra cleaning around the house. Wash the curtains, purge the closet of winter gear and give our home a deep clean. It just feels good to get rid of the dirt and junk that accumulates over the winter.
Our bodies like a little Spring cleaning attention too. I find that during the Spring, I re-asses the things I use on my skin, what I use to clean my home with, what I am fuelling my body with and my daily routines. For the next few weeks, we are going to take a closer look at these type of things.
The first thing I want to discuss is nutritionally cleansing our bodies. Why do it and exactly what does that mean?
Cleansing your cells can improve your ability to absorb nutrients and eliminate waste. It can also stabilize and improve your energy. During a cleanse, the goal is to help you improve your health, increase your energy, and eliminate waste that can cause disease, weight gain, and cravings.
There are a few reasons why toxins build up in your body:
- You take in more than you can eliminate either with food or lifestyle. This inhibits your body from being able to fully recover.
- Toxins in our food, our environment, and our thoughts create waste our body cannot use.
Toxins are stored in your cells. The quality of your life comes down to the quality of your cells.
What does a cleanse look like?
That my friend is entirely up to you. I am a firm believer that a cleanse should include whole foods that taste great. I don’t want to feel deprived or hungry all the time either. I want to see results and learn new recipes and strategies that become a part of my everyday life. If a cleanse is something that interests you, I would love to talk more with you about it. I’m starting mine next week and I would love to have some friends join me in the fun! Simply reply to this email or call me at 519-503-7926 and let’s talk!
Wonder what I’ll be eating on my cleanse? May I introduce you to the tastiest turkey burger I’ve ever eaten?
1 lb ground turkey
3 granny smith apples, peeled & finely chopped
1 medium onion, finely chopped
3 stalks celery, finely chopped
1 clove garlic, crushed
1/4 c oatmeal to hold mixture together
2 tbsp lime juice, freshly squeezed
sea salt & pepper to taste
Sauté apple, onion & celery. Set aside and cool before mixing into meat. Mix all ingredients together in a large bowl. Mixture will be moist but will hold together much better if you refrigerate the patties for ½ hour before grilling. Serve with hummus & fresh tomato. Makes about 7 patties.
